On Saturday July 14th, 2012 I played for a 50th birthday party for Esther, and 50 friends and family members at the Lago Mar Country Club in West Broward. I worked with Radisson (her daughter), in creating a play list and time line. Since the majority of my group were from Jamaica I started the evening by playing an hour of old school reggae for the cocktail hour. I introduced Esther and her husband Mike into the room and straight to the dance floor, where they danced to "I Will Exalt" by Bethel. After a minute or so I invited all of the couples to join them. Radisson, Rachel, and Mike all presented toasts and then we move to dinner time and a variety of jazz and steel drum music. Once the buffet was enjoyed by all of the guests, by request the microphone was passed around the room for everyone to say a few words about Esther. It was fun, up beat, and brought back some memories. Then I started the dancing off with "Tiny Whiny" a socca classic from years ago. The dance fllor was immediately rocking and stayed that way for the rest of the night. I played everything from Bob Marley to Byron Lee, Beres Hammond,Alison Hinds, Dennis Brown, Third World, to Salsa, and Top 40 club hits. The Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide, Wobble Wobble, and Dollar Wine all went over big with this group of festive party goers. Later everyone sang happy birthday to Esther and after cake was served and a few group photos were taken, we cranked up the dance floor one more time. I played "Step In The Name Of Love" by R Kelly for the birthday girl and we ended the evening by everyone making a big circle around Esther on the dance floor. The final song was "Happy Birthday to Ya" by Stevie Wonder. I also want tp thank Caryl, the catering Director at Lago Mar, and her staff for the warm welcome and hospitality I received throughout the entire evening. Also special thanks to Marceliano Munoz from Munoz photography for the referral for this party! Happy Birthday Esther, I enjoyed the evening as much as you did. DJ/MC Eddie B!
