Pompano Beach Class of 1970 Reunion at the Embassy Suites / Deerfield Beach

On Saturday, October 17th, I had the honor to DJ/MC the class reunion for the Pompano Beach High School class of 1970. The event took place at the lovely Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach, right on the ocean. As guests arrived, I played a mixture of low key music from the 60s and 70s. Once all of the guests arrived, I announced that we would be doing introductions and asked that each guest state their name, where they currently live and let everyone know something interesting about themselves. The guests passed the mic around the room and we all shared a lot of laughs. After everyone got reacquainted, we moved onto the dinner service. For dinner, I continued to play a mix of mostly 60s and 70s music and slowly ramped it up to music that would get everyone dancing. After dinner, the class of 1970 showed that they can boogie down! After about 30 minutes of dancing, I announced that I needed 5 guys to perform the YMCA for the group. Apparently, this is a tradition that they do at all of their reunions. They performed the entire song as if they were the Village People. After that, I queued up Billy Jean by Michael Jackson and announced a moonwalk competition. Several people lined up on the dance floor to show their best moonwalk! The rest of the evening the guests danced to a mixture of hits form the 60s, 70s and early 80s. I had a great time and hope to be the DJ for their 50th class reunion in 5 years. Thank you to the staff of the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach! DJ/MC Eric Olsen!
