On May 14th, 2011 I played for Marlen and Albert Alvarez at the Hilton Hotel 17th street causeway, Ft. Lauderdale. For the cocktail hour their choice of music was Michael Buble. I introduced the bridal party to "Children" by Robert Miles and the newlyweds to "Sandstorm" by Darude. Marlen and Albert then danced to an old Led Zeppelin re-make "Thankyou" by Chris Cornell, while 60 guests looked on and cheered and clapped. The toasts were presented by Albert's son & best man Albie, and matron of honor Christine. Then a special blessing was given by a close friend Linda Burns who represented the bride along with her husband Neil and Aunt Ila. Later, Marlen danced with aunt Ila and Albert danced with his mother Carmen, to "What A Wonderful World" by Louie Armstrong. After dinner it was a mix of Spanish music (Albert is originally from Puerto Rico), and Top 40 dance hits of today with a little bit of retro 80's & 90's, that kept the dancefloor busy. They cut their wedding cake to "My Best Friend" by Queen, and Albert removed the garter to "The Pink Panther Theme. We ended the evening with a classic from Donna Summer "Last Dance" and I sent the newlyweds off to Costa Rica for their honeymoon. A special note of interest, Marlen is also an employee of the Hilton Hotel and throughout the evening a few fellow employees stopped by to say congrats to her and Albert. Thank you to Gaylene and her staff at the Hilton and nothing but the best for Albert and Marlen....DJ/MC Eddie B!
