The weather was beautiful and the scenery was tropical at the Key Largo Lighthouse for Josh and Allie's Wedding on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The couple is from Alabama in that place near the Florida/Alabama border called Flori-bama so I made sure to play Sweet Home Alabama and All Summer Long by Kid Rock. Josh's mom Jennifer is a huge Dave Matthews fan so I made sure to play plenty of Dave. The bridal party walked down the path to Crash by Dave Matthews Band. Allie looked beautiful walking down the path to meet her man to "At Last" by Etta James. The officiant did a fantastic job and did not use any cliches. He even poked fun at some of the cliches you typically hear at wedding ceremonies and did a fantastic job. Allie and Josh wrote their own heartfelt vows. After Josh and Allie were pronounced husband and wife I played "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by the Darkness and the ceremony came to an end and cocktail hour began!
A Florida Keys Cocktail hour is laid back and relaxed. I played a lot of Dave Matthews Band and it set a great atmosphere. I like to mix in some Dave to my sets down there anyway and think I will start putting in even more! I also played laid back music from Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Don't Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFarin is a staple on my list, Smooth by Santana and So Good to Me by Chris Malinchuk. Even Diplo and Miguel's "Don't Forget My Love" has been going over nicely during cocktail hour. For the introductions I played by request Howlin for You by the Black Keyes. For their first dance Allie and Josh chose You Are the Best Thing by Ray Lamontane, a beautiful first dance song. Then Allie danced with her father to Unforgettable by Nat and Natalie Cole, and Josh danced with his mom to the Dave Matthews Cover of the Beatles Classic In My Life.
For dinner it was steak or chicken provided by Conch Kitchen. Friends of the bride and groom including Tony, Meredith, the Brides Mother Barbara and Terry the officiant gave toasts that left tears in Allie's eyes. After dinner and desert it was time to dance and have a good time! The bride and groom left the music selection up to me and reading this crowd was not difficult. I took many requests from the father of the bride and groom! Some of the music I played was: Elton John/Dua Lipa - Cold Heart, Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, Can't Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake. We did the Wobble, the Cupid Shuffle, danced to Footloose and Toby Keith. Party in the USA always gets people up! September by Earth Wind and Fire, Umbrella by Rihanna, Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan - Do It Again finished out the night. It was an honor to be part of Josh and Allie's special day and I wish them the most wonderful life together!
