It was an absolute pleasure to DJ the wedding of Tobiah and Grace at the Historic Maxwell Room Downtown Ft Lauderdale on Saturday, August 31, 2024. The classic brick and ambient lighting make for the most perfect pictures inside the Historic Maxwell Room tucked away behind the Downtowner facing New River. Tobiah and Grace, both in their early 20s, planned their wedding within three months and it was memorable. As the guest arrived to the Maxwell Room from Above and Beyond Church where the ceremony took place, I played a mix of classic wedding music from Etta James, Ed Sheeran and Nat King Cole. But some of the guests were all ready to dance so I cranked it up for a bit with David Guetta and Alesso and the dance floor filled up during cocktail hour! This reception was unique as there was no alcohol served.
After Cocktail Hour I played Marry You by Bruno Mars and announced for the first time "Mr and Mrs Tobiah Llorens!" The guests who had taken their seats for dinner clapped and cheered as the newlyweds made their way to the head table. A prayer was given asking for The Lord's blessing over Tobiah and Grace's marriage. Toasts were offered by the best man Javier and the matron of honor Jenny. Javier told the story of how Tobiah and Grace had known each other in high school and found their way back to each other later on. It was a story that a movie could be made out of.
After dinner, Tobiah and Grace sat in chairs on the dance floor. I called up each table one by one to take a picture with the newlyweds and played fun music like Baby by Justin Bieber and Happier by Marshmellow as the photographer took the pictures. This was a fun way to make sure everyone gets a photo with the newlyweds and I highly recommend this if you are planning your wedding.
Next, Tobiah and Grace cut their cake as I played "This Will Be" by Natalie Cole. They were both very kind to each other and gave each other a bite of cake. The days of the boorish tradition of shoving cake in each other's faces are long gone and the world is better for it.
Next it was time to DANCE and the floor was packed! David Guetta - I Don't Wanna Wait started things off. I played Pitbull - Timber, The Killers - Mr Brightside, Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance, Uptown Funk, Fire Burning, Shakira - Hips Don't Lie. I also slowed it down with music from Brad Paisley - She's Everything and Thomas Rhett - Die a Happy Man. I took it back with Culture Club and Dexy's Midnight Riders - Come On Aileen. The atmosphere was fun and joyful! Next, the guests went outside as Tobiah and Grace had their last dance to Gregory Alan Isakov - Amsterdam before going outside for a surprise sparkler sendoff!
The wedding of Tobiah and Grace was a joyful event! I imagine their lives will be filled with this same joy!
